Flying Squirrels to host Pokémon Go Night

Chris Graham

richmond flying squirrelsThe Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, announced that their next scheduled home game on Monday, July 18th against Akron will be Pokémon Go Night.

With the recent resurgence of the Nintendo-based game and its popularity across the city, the Flying Squirrels are offering a $5 General Admission ticket at the ticket windows to all fans that show the ticket seller the Pokémon Go app on their smartphones. In addition to having a pregame Pokémon “catch on the field” from 6:15 to 6:35, there will be a scavenger hunt throughout The Diamond and a raffle drawing for a fan to win a replica jersey with the name “Pokémaster” on the back.

The July 18th game will also be a Bark in the Park Monday, with the first 300 dogs receiving a free Flying Squirrels bandana, courtesy of VCA Animal Hospitals.

Here’s how to win. Each fan that has the Pokémon Go app on their smartphone will receive a card with 10 “Poké Stops” listed throughout The Diamond. A purchase at each location results in a raffle ticket for the drawing later in the evening. By the 7th inning, fans must turn their cards in at the main stage in order to receive their raffle tickets. The winner of the raffle will receive a replica Flying Squirrels jersey with the name “Pokémaster” on the back, 4 field level tickets to another home game later in the season, and a chance to throw a first pitch at a future game.

The 10 “Poké Night Stops” will be at the following locations: all across the outfield pregame, concession stands, The Midway Cart, Thirsty Acorn, the Wine Cart, Bullpen Bar, the Nacho Stand, Dip N’ Dots, the Flying Squirrels Team Store, and the Kids Zone.

There will also be food and drink items based on character names from the game and in-game promotions that tie into Pokémon Go. The pregame “catch on the field” will be from 6:15 to 6:35 for fans who want to play Pokémon Go in the outfield. To enter, fans can show the app to a Flying Squirrels staff member at the 107/108 field gate entrance.

Monday night’s game begins a quick three-game series for the Flying Squirrels against the Akron RubberDucks before they hit the road for a seven-game roadtrip. The full promotional schedule can be found here. Season tickets, mini plans, and group packages are currently available by contacting the box office at 804-359-FUNN or online at www.squirrelsbaseball.com.
