Fluvanna County: One dead in accident involving emergency vehicle, truck

A Henrico County man is dead after his truck was struck by an emergency vehicle on Wednesday morning in Fluvanna County.

Luis J. Sanchez, 61, died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police. A passenger in the vehicle, Marco H. Guerrero, 42, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

A Waynesboro woman, Virginia R. Davis, 21, who was at the wheel of the emergency vehicle, suffered serious injuries. A passenger, Hunter C. Aimes, 32, suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to area hospitals due to injuries sustained in the crash.

According to State Police, the fatal two-vehicle crash occurred at 7:51 a.m. at the intersection of Route 15 and Route 6.

The Fluvanna County emergency vehicle was headed northbound on Route 15 when a truck, driven by Sanchez, pulled into the intersection from Route 6, and Davis was unable to avoid hitting it. According to VSP, there is a stop sign on Route 6, and the emergency vehicle had its lights and siren activated.

The truck was hit on the driver’s side.

All four people involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation.
