The father of the suspect in the school shooting at a Georgia high school has been charged with murder after it was learned that he purchased the AR-style assault rifle used in the assault and gave it to his son as a Christmas gift.
Colin Gray, 54, was charged with two counts of murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children.
His son, Colt Gray, 14, has also been charged in connection with the murders of two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in north Georgia.
Nine other people were injured in the mass shooting, which unfolded on Wednesday at the school.

It was revealed after the school shooting that authorities had interviewed father and son last year after launching an investigation into online threats to shoot up a school that were traced back to an online account associated with the teen.
Colin Gray, according to local authorities, told investigators that he allowed his son to use hunting rifles under his supervision, but stressed that Colt did not have “unfettered access” to them, and the local sheriff’s office leading the investigation closed the case.
In the course of investigating the school shooting, authorities learned that Colin Gray had bought an AR-style rifle for his son for Christmas last year, after the matter involving the threats had come up and been dispensed with.
