Electric cooperatives association elects new officers

newspaperThe Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives board of directors took action at its July 23 annual meeting to elect officers for 2018-2019.

Serving as chairman of the VMDAEC board is Herbert Patrick, a Petersburg, Va. businessman who represents Prince George Electric Cooperative. Serving as the board’s vice chairman is Fletcher B. “Bob” Jones, an insurance agent from Boydton, Va. who serves on the board of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative. Pat Dorey, a retired college administrator and academic counselor who represents Delaware Electric Cooperative, was elected as the VMDAEC board’s secretary/treasurer.

“Each of these officers also serves on the board of their local electric cooperative and on one or more of the Association’s 10 committees,” said Richard G. Johnstone, VMDAEC president & CEO. “We truly depend upon their commitment to provide input on how to expand and improve the services we provide our member cooperatives.”

Founded in 1944, VMDAEC is the trade association for 15 customer-owned, not-for-profit electric distribution cooperatives that serve Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. The Glen Allen, Va.-based Association provides its member cooperatives with employee and director education, safety training, government relations, and communications services, including publishing Cooperative Living magazine, whose circulation in excess of 520,000 makes it the largest in the state.
