Eight elementary school students sent to hospital for treatment after bus crash

A Virginia school bus driver has been charged with failure to yield after an accident sent eight elementary students to a hospital this morning.

William Payne Jr., 66, of Front Royal, suffered minor injuries in the school bus crash on Route 522 in Rappahannock County.

Virginia State Police is investigating the two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 9:10 a.m.

The driver of a Ford F-150 was travelling on Route 522 when it was unable to avoid the Warren County school bus, which had pulled out from a stop sign at Chester Gap Road onto Route 522.

The bus was transporting 10 elementary school age students at the time. Two were released to their parents following the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
