Dukes pull upset at Tech, 21-16

Wow!

James Madison pulled off what may have been the biggest upset in I-AA football history with its 21-16 win at #13 Virginia Tech on Saturday.

JMU quarterback Drew Dudzik threw for one touchdown and ran for two second-half scores, including a 12-yard run with 13:45 to go that gave the Dukes their first lead of the game.

Virginia Tech (0-2) seemed to be in position to retake the lead twice in the final minutes, but a fourth-down pass from Tyrod Taylor to Jarrett Boykin in the end zone fell incomplete, and later running back Darren Evans fumbled at the JMU 12 to give the ball back to Madison.

JMU (2-0) was able to keep the ball for the final five-plus minutes to run the clock out.

Dudzik connected with tailback Jamal Sullivan on a 77-yard scoring play in the second quarter to cut an early Tech lead to 10-7. Tech upped the lead to 13-7 at the half on a Chris Hazley 30-yard field goal. A third-quarter Hazley field goal, this one from 28 yards out, made it 16-7 Hokies.

Dudzik scored from seven yards out with 4:06 to go in the third to pull JMU within two and set up the fourth-quarter heroics.
