Duke’s Grayson Allen named ACC basketball player of the week

ACC_Basketball_Digital_DBGDuke sophomore Grayson Allen has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week, while Blue Devil teammate Brandon Ingram was chosen as the ACC Rookie of the Week .

ACC basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. Allen and Ingram were each recognized for the second time this season.

Allen averaged 22.3 points and in three Duke wins, beginning with 17 in Monday’s 105-66 win over Elon. He  led all scorers with a career-high 33 points in Wednesday’s 103-81 win over Long Beach State, then followed up with 17 points in Duke’s 81-64 win at Boston College in Saturday’s ACC opener. The Jacksonville, Florida, native shot a combined  24-of-27 from the foul line, including a 15-of-17 showing versus Long Beach State. Allen led the Blue Devils in assists with five against Elon, six in the win over Long Beach State and five more at Boston College. The 6-foot-5 Allen also had nine rebounds in Saturday’s win over the Eagles, matching Ingram for game-high honors.

Ingram averaged 21.7 points in the Blue Devils’ three victories, including a game-high 25 in Saturday’s win at BC. Ingram’s 25 points fell three shy of tying the Duke freshman scoring record for a conference opener, set last year by 2015 ACC Player and Rookie of the Year Jahlil Okafor (28 versus Boston College).  Ingram, a native of Kinston, North Carolina, connected on 4-of-9 shots from 3-point range against the Eagles, marking his seventh straight game with two-or-more made 3-point field goals and his third game this season with four made three 3-pointers. Ingram opened the week with 26 points and 11 rebounds versus Elon, marking his second double-double as a college player, and he added 14 points in the win over Long Beach State.
