Employees at the Department of Motor Vehicles donated five tons of supplies to Southwest Virginia to help in areas devastated by Hurricane Helene.

On Oct. 15, DMV Commissioner Gerald Lackey took a 40-foot semi truck loaded with the supplies from Richmond to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management center at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“Needing a semi-truck to deliver the supplies truly speaks to the overwhelming generosity of DMV employees,” said Lackey. “A lot is still needed by these communities, but when we come together, we really can make a difference.”

The truck stopped in Roanoke to collect additional supplies from employees as well as a donation from employees at the Marriot Group at Roanoke Airport.

The truck delivered paper goods, water, cleaning supplies, hygiene items and diapers.

The DMV Connect mobile service team also travelled to Damascus for more than a week to help process transactions to help with replacement drivers’ licenses and titles.
