Update on missing Augusta County man subject of search on Shenandoah Mountain

Update: Monday, 5:54 p.m. Scott Wayne Fitzgerald has been safely located, according to a report from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.


First report: Monday, 9:35 a.m. There is a heavy police presence at the Confederate Breastworks trail on Shenandoah Mountain as authorities lead a search for a missing person who has been identified as Scott Wayne Fitzgerald from Augusta County.

Fitzgerald was last seen on Friday, May 16, at his residence. His vehicle has been located at the overlook on top of the mountain.

At this time, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office along with the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Charlottesville Police Department and University of Virginia Police Department are actively searching Shenandoah Mountain for Fitzgerald.

This is an ongoing incident. Additional details will be released when available.

Expect delays and congestion with traffic near the Confederate Breastworks area.
