Developing: Pittsylvania County deputy airlifted after single-vehicle crash

A Pittsylvania County sheriff’s deputy was airlifted after a single-vehicle accident on Thursday.

Per Virginia State Police, the deputy was attempting to initiate a traffic stop when his patrol vehicle ran off the roadway in the 5700 block of Whitmell School Road in the Mount Cross area when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned into a field.

The deputy was transported by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
