Dancing Star Farm announces its Community Supported Agriculture program for 2013

foodToday, Dancing Star Farm, a permaculture farm in Augusta County, announced that it will be accepting CSA membership to participate in their third annual Community Supported Agriculture Program.

“As a farm we’ve encountered several transitions in the last couple of years.  Each year, the changes have allowed us to expand production and this year our CSA program will be able to increase membership significantly, especially in Waynesboro where I grew up.  We’re pumped to share our ecologically raised food with a wider community,” said owner/operator Ryan Blosser

By investing in Dancing Star Farm’s CSA, you support the local economy and get the benefit of knowing how and where your food is grown.  Community Supported Agriculture is an opportunity to know your farmer and food intimately.  By investing up front, farmers are able to use the funds to purchase seeds and plan for the growing season with less waste.  With the Dancing Star Farm CSA the customers are invited to take the risk on food production with the farmer.  This dynamic between consumer and producer deepens the relationship and creates a more authentic, healthy, and of course tastier experience of food consumption.

“We really try to spoil our customers with  lots of greens and alliums (garlic, onions, leeks)and tomatoes, but the fun part for me as a producer is introducing our customers to some of the more unique flavors and shapes that our soil can produce,” Blosser said.  When a customer posts a picture on our Facebook page of how they prepared a Ball Squash from their basket, or tells us that their kids now love to eat Chard because of the Rainbow Colors on the plate-that feels like a win.”

This year Staunton customers can pick up their baskets on Thursday evenings between 5 and 7pm at AVA Restaurant in downtown Staunton.  Meanwhile, we are offering a Saturday morning pick up for Waynesboro customers at the Saturday morning Waynesboro Farmers Market.
