Cru$h: Orioles sign Chris Davis to huge deal

chris davisChris Davis will remain in Baltimore, with the Orioles agreeing to terms with the slugger on a seven-year, $161 million deal.

The O’s had topped out at $150 million over seven years before contract talks stalled in December. The team then started shopping around for other top-flight frea agents, reportedly recently settling on outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

Perhaps the dalliance with Cespedes re-opened the door with Davis, 29, who hit 47 home runs last year and has 126 homers over the past three seasons.

With Davis in tow now, the O’s appear to be out of the market for Cespedes or any other top free agents.

Davis is the third member of the Baltimore roster to re-sign in the offseason. Catcher Matt Wieters accepted a one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer in November, and setup man Darren O’Day signed a four-year, $31 million contract last month.
