It looks like CrossKeys Vineyards is going to need to build a bigger trophy case. The Rockingham County-based winery recently earned five silver medals and a bronze at the 2018 Global Wine Awards in Las Vegas.
The inaugural Global Wine Awards was hosted June 18-20 at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The competition featured nine world class judges with a panel of the finest palates, including Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, wine educators, and industry experts.
“We are so proud of Head Winemaker Stephan Heyns and Assistant Winemaker Steve Monson,” said Babak Bakhtiar, CrossKeys’ director of marketing. “Their tireless efforts to create the finest wines in Virginia have paid off once again. We’re extremely proud and humbled that we were able to compete and win against some of the most respected wineries in California, Oregon, and Washington.”

- 2016 Joy White – Silver
- 2016 Joy Red – Silver
- 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon – Silver
- 2015 Cabernet Franc – Silver
- 2015 Meritage – Silver
- 2015 Petit Verdot – Bronze
Since planting its first vines in April 2001, CrossKeys Vineyards has produced more than 165 vintages, which have earned 90 awards at wine competitions around the country.
Today, CrossKeys Vineyards has 12 varietals growing on 32 of its 125 acres. The winery produces 10,000 cases of 100 percent estate-grown wine per year including a plethora of award-winners. In February, CrossKeys’ 2015 Ali d’Oro won a gold medal in the prestigious 2018 Governor’s Cup competition in Virginia. The 2015 Ali d’Oro was also chosen for spot in the coveted Governor’s Case, which is made up of the top 12 Virginia wines selected from more than 400 entries.
