Community urged to remember local teen at Red Cross blood drive

Chris Graham

ethanThe American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive in memory of a local teenager who lost his life in a car accident this past spring. Ethan Zander was a 16-year-old who was beloved by many. He was the captain of the varsity soccer team, an active member of Young Life, choir, drum line and acappella. He was known to always have a smile and a kind word for everyone he met.

The community is invited to come out and keep Ethan’s spirit alive by honoring him with a blood donation and helping to give life to others. Locals can donate blood on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at East Rockingham High School, 250 Eagle Rock Road, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. By donating at this blood drive in memory of Ethan, locals can help keep blood on the shelves for patients in need.

“Ethan Zander never met a stranger. He would give you the shirt off of his back. Helping others in need was at the forefront of all that he did all the time,” said close family friend and pastor Rob Buchanan. “Giving blood is a way to help others in need while honoring the memory of this tremendous young man.”
