College World Series: Road through Omaha not easy for UVA

Contributors

college world seriesThe regional wasn’t easy for UVA, on paper, with an SEC team as the #2 seed and the #14 team in the final regular-season national polls as the #3.

Then the ‘Hoos drew in the Super Regionals a team that swept through the South Carolina regional and also happened to own a win over the Cavs in the teams’ only matchup in 2014.

Turns out the first two rounds were cakewalks compared to what Virginia (49-14) will face in Omaha.

The average RPI of the four teams in the Cavs’ half of the College World Series is 5.25. Virginia does its part to add to the strength of the bracket with the #1 RPI. Opening-night opponent Ole Miss is at #4; TCU is #5; and Texas Tech is #11.

Not that competing at the College World Series level should be easy, but that’s a tough road to the championship round, tougher certainly than the other side of the bracket (Texas at #3, Vanderbilt at #6, Louisville at #15 and UC-Irvine at #24).
