Police are asking for help finding a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred on East Market Street in Charlottesville on July 28.

Gustavo Junior Laurent is wanted by police on two charges: malicious wounding and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Laurent should be considered “armed” if encountered, according to the Charlottesville Police Department.

According to police, on Sunday at 1:38 a.m., officers were patrolling in the area of the 100 block of East Market Street when they were flagged down by a citizen who said his friend had just been shot.

A 33-year-old male victim was found and was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound. He is in stable condition, according to police.

At the time of the shooting, police said the incident appeared to be isolated.

If you have any information related to this incident or the whereabouts of Laurent, call the Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000.
