Charlottesville Police seek assistance locating ‘armed’ shooting suspect

Police are asking for help finding a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred on East Market Street in Charlottesville on July 28.

Gustavo Junior Laurent is wanted by police on two charges: malicious wounding and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Laurent should be considered “armed” if encountered, according to the Charlottesville Police Department.

According to police, on Sunday at 1:38 a.m., officers were patrolling in the area of the 100 block of East Market Street when they were flagged down by a citizen who said his friend had just been shot.

A 33-year-old male victim was found and was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound. He is in stable condition, according to police.

At the time of the shooting, police said the incident appeared to be isolated.
