Carroll County: RV driver loses control on Interstate 77, one killed

Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash involving an RV reported on Saturday on Interstate 77 at the four-mile marker in Carroll County.

Per VSP, a 2005 Coachman Encore RV was travelling northbound on Interstate 77 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, ran off the right side of road, and struck the guardrail.

A passenger in the vehicle, Gretchen H. Karcher, 70, of Versailles, Pa., was ejected and died at the scene.

Karcher was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the vehicle, Ronald J. Winkler, 73, of North Versailles, Pa., was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
