Cardinals make it two in a row in Washington

washington nationalsSt. Louis jumped early on Gio Gonzalez in a 9-4 win at Washington on Saturday night at Nationals Park.

Gonzalez (3-3, 3.57 ERA) gave up six runs on six hits in four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking four.

It was the shortest outing of the season for Gonzalez, and the fourth time in his last five starts that he failed to get through the sixth inning.

UVA alum Ryan Zimmerman hit two homers, his seventh and eighth, and Bryce Harper also homered, his 13th of the season, for the Nats (29-21), who have lost six of their last eight at home.

Adam Wainwright (5-3, 5.71 ERA) gave up four runs on six hits in seven innings of work, striking out five.
