albemarle countyThe Virginia Department of Transportation will close Route 600 (Stony Point Pass) for about five weeks to replace the bridge over Flannigan Branch.

The bridge, located 0.6 mile south of Route 20 (Stony Point Road) and about five miles from Route 231 (Gordonsville Road), will be closed July 9-Aug. 10. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the closure. Access to all commercial and private entrances will be maintained.

The existing Flannigan Branch bridge, which was built in 1932, has a posted weight restriction of 17 tons. Once construction is complete, the bridge will be rated for all legal loads.

The bridge carries approximately 70 vehicles daily, according to a 2015 traffic count.

Message boards will be in place soon to notify the public of the closure.
