The Virginia Department of Transportation has begun to replace the Route 340 bridge over Cub Run in Page County. The new bridge will be built next to the existing structure, which is nearly 90 years old and reaching the end of its service life. The roadway approaches on both sides of the bridge will also be realigned to reduce curves along Route 340.
The speed limit has been lowered to 45 miles per hour through this work zone, which is about a half-mile south of the entrance to Page County High School. During the next several weeks, Route 340 traffic lanes will shift slightly to the east as contractors begin grading work. Drivers should also be alert for occasional flagging operations during this project.
On March 29, 2016, VDOT awarded a $4,337,363.83 construction contract to Kanawha Stone Company Inc. of Nitro, West Virginia. The Route 340 bridge project is scheduled for completion in fall 2017. All work is weather permitting.
