Brian O’Connor staying put with UVA baseball

Chris Graham

Speculation that Texas would lure UVA baseball coach Brian O’Connor with its millions and millions of dollars came to an end Sunday.

O’Connor ended it with a tweet.

brian oconnorO’Connor, 45, signed a seven-year contract extension in 2014 worth $5 million before bonuses. He is due a $250,000 longevity bonus this week.

Texas recently parted ways with long-time coach Augie Garrido, who was paid in excess of a million dollars a year in the job.

The easy assumption is that UT will surpass that figure to lure a successor.

O’Connor has coached UVA to 13 NCAA Tournament appearances in his 13-year tenure, with four trips to the College World Series and the 2015 national title among his accomplishments.

His teams have gone 596-223-2 (.727) over his run.
