Wood Sara LeachNitz James JonathanAnything you can do, I can do better. That’s the case with a boyfriend and girlfriend arrested on separate DUI charges 37 minutes apart early this morning in Waynesboro.

It all started at 2:10 a.m. when a Waynesboro Police stopped James Jonathan Nitz, 42, of Staunton, just outside the city limits on West Main Street.  Nitz was later arrested for DUI.  While a second officer was awaiting a wrecker to tow Nitz’s vehicle,  his girlfriend, 46-year-old Sara Leach Wood of Waynesboro, called the Waynesboro Emergency Operations Center inquiring if she could do anything to help Nitz.  She was told no and told not to drive if she had also been drinking.

Wood drove to where the officer was waiting for the wrecker anyway, and when the officer approached Wood, she also showed signs of intoxication and was subsequently arrested for DUI.   Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Both Nitz and Wood are currently at Middle River Regional Jail until sober enough for bond hearings.
