Blue Rocks shut down P-Nats, 3-1

The Potomac Nationals fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 3-1 at Frawley Stadium on Friday night.  In front of a sell-out crowd of 7,444, home hurler Jason Adam tossed seven one-run innings for the victory.

Wilmington scored in the first inning for the second straight night against Potomac. Against starter Matt Grace, Angel Franco led off the game with a single and Orlando Calixte walked.  Cheslor Cuthbert knocked Franco in with a single to give Wilmington a 1-0 lead.  Lane Adams then hit a two-out single to extend the Rocks lead to 2-0.

Grace would settle down for the P-Nats tossing six quality innings yielding just those two runs in the first. He struck out five batters tossing 93 pitches.

Kevin Keyes got the P-Nats started in the third inning with a lead-off opposite field homer against Wilmington starter Jason Adam.  It was the second straight game Keyes homered which is the fourth time he’s done that this year.

Like Grace, Adam was very sharp going seven strong innings giving up just one run, walking none and striking out six.

Wilmington added an insurance run in the eight against Jimmy Barthmaier.  Franco tripled and scored on a Calixte single extending the lead to 3-1 for the Rocks.

The P-Nats stranded runners in each of the final four innings. Sam Runion got the final six outs of the game earning his fifth save of the year for Wilmington.

Adam (2-9) picked up just his second win in 18 starts this year for Wilmington.  Grace (4-9) despite tossing a quality start took his team-high ninth loss of the year.
