A familiar face has been named the executive director of the Blue Ridge Abortion Fund.
April Greene, who has led the organization as interim ED since September, has now officially been named to the permanent position.
Greene joined BRAF in 2021 serving in multiple roles including operations coordinator and director of programs and strategy.
Greene leads the organization with lived experience, having navigated abortion care in rural Georgia as a young person.
“I fund abortions because I believe everyone should have the resources they need to make the reproductive decisions that are right for them,” Greene said.
This belief—fierce, grounded, and unwavering—is at the heart of her leadership, said Rae Pickett, board chair.
Since stepping into the interim ED role last fall, April has led the Charlottesville-based organization through one of its most impactful years to date distributing more than $1 million in abortion and practical support funding.
Pickett said in a statement that Greene’s work over the last nine months made it clear she was the right person for the job.
“April is a powerhouse, bringing not only the sharp skills needed to lead this organization, but a deep, lived commitment to abortion justice,” said Pickett. “Her strong relationships with other funds, supporters, volunteers and donors are a testament to the trust and respect she’s built in this work. There’s no one better to lead BRAF into its next chapter, and we are so excited for what’s ahead under her leadership.”
