Blogcast w/Chris Graham: Nats can’t even do a blowout right

washington nationalsBig wins, big losses for hapless Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets 15-0 on Sunday. For some reason, closer Kelvin Herrera was on the mound in the ninth inning.

If you’re a Nats fan, you knew what was going to happen, and it did. Herrera felt something pop in his left foot running off the mound to cover first on an infield grounder, left the game, and now word is he’s out for the season.

In a 15-0 win.

But you remembered that in a 25-4 win over the Mets back on July 31, setup man Shawn Kelley was, for some reason, in the game, got frustrated, accounts vary on why, but after slamming his glove to the ground upon giving up a meaningless homer, Kelley was DFA’d by general manager Mike Rizzo.

Now in Oakland, Kelley hasn’t given up a run in nine appearances, with a 0.50 WHIP in eight innings, with eight strikeouts, two walks and two hits allowed.

Wouldn’t you love to have that at the back end of the Nats bullpen right now?

Oh, wait, you’ve got Greg Holland, or whoever.

Rizzo: for not knowing how to piece together a bullpen, needs to be fired.

Rookie manager Dave Martinez: for not knowing how to blow out the Mets without killing his pen, needs to be fired.
