Bedford County: Three ejected from box truck, one dies at the scene of crash

Three people were ejected from a box truck after a crash on Route 221 in Bedford County yesterday at 12:08 p.m.

David M. Johnson, 57, of Evington, died at the scene.

Johnson was the driver of a Hino 195 box truck. According to Virginia State Police, the truck was travelling westbound near the intersection with Roaring Run Road when it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound tractor trailer.

The two other occupants of the box truck were transported to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not released.

The driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries and was also transported to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
