BC students inducted in Alpha Chi

Bridgewater College inducted 18 students into Alpha Chi, a national scholastic honor society, during the 2011-12 academic year.

Alpha Chi was founded in 1922 and its purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction.

Membership in the honor society is limited to the top 10 percent of juniors, seniors and graduate students at colleges and universities that have Alpha Chi chapters.

Dr. Stephen Baron, professor of biology, serves as faculty adviser for Bridgewater’s chapter of Alpha Chi.

Inducted at Bridgewater College were:

·     Stephanie Bailey, a junior art major, from Elkton, Va.;

·     Molly Borden, a senior liberal studies major, from Staunton, Va.;

·     Paul Brockman, a senior music major, from Orange, Va.;

·     Rebecca A. Cash, a senior psychology major with a minor in social work, from Greenville, Va.;

·     Delorez Christian, a junior information systems management and psychology double major, from Warrenton, Va.;

·     Matt Cline, a senior chemistry and physics double major, from Mount Sidney, Va.;

·     Sara Beth Dodson, a senior biology major, from Front Royal, Va.;

·     Erin N. French, a senior family and consumer sciences major with a minor in business administration, from Mount Sidney, Va.;

·     Tyler Goss, a senior philosophy and religion and mathematics double major, from Mechanicsville, Va.;

·     Emma Haag, a senior nutrition and wellness and health and exercise science major with a minor in family and consumer sciences, from McGaheysville, Va.;

·     J.L. Krehbiel Jr., a senior sociology and international studies double major, from McPherson, Kan.;

·     Chelsey Nichols, a senior liberal studies major, from Bedford, Va.;

·     Kristine L. Simmons, a senior health and exercise science major with a minor in business administration, from Verona, Va.;

·     Katie Smith, a senior English major, from Copper Hill, Va.;

·     Ryan Speray, a senior history and political science major with a minor in crime and justice, from Gloucester, Va.;

·     Matthew Staton, a senior English major, from Keezletown, Va.;

·     Danielle Van Leer, a senior liberal studies major, from Culpeper, Va.; and

·     Timothy Wisniewski, a senior history and English double major, from Fredericksburg, Va.

The National Council of Alpha Chi sponsors a yearly scholarship competition. This year, Carina Botterbusch, a senior sociology major with minors in psychology and social work, received a Robert W. Sledge Fellowship. The $3,500 scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors for graduate study in the fall of 2012. Botterbusch will pursue a master’s in social work at Eastern Tennessee State University. She is the daughter of Bob and Donna Botterbusch of Dover, Pa.
