Bank robbed, suspect still on the lam

Chris Graham

Waynesboro Police have released surveillance photos from a bank robbery downtown Monday afternoon, but it is believed that the suspect may have been wearing a disguise, including face paint and a hat with dreadlocks, which could make it hard to identify the man from the photos.

The man was able to flee the SunTrust branch on West Broad Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. The man left behind a black bag that he had told bank employees contained a bomb. Police closed off several nearby streets until a Virginia State Police bomb disposal unit could detonate the bag, which was later determined not to have had a bomb inside.

The suspect was wearing a green jacket, long pants and gloves with the fingers cut out.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Waynesboro Police Department at 540.942.6675 or Crime Stoppers at 800.322.2017.
