MLB Roundup: Baltimore, Washington both shut out

Baltimore blitzed in series opener by M’s

Wade Miley and two Seattle relievers combined on a two-hit shutout in a 10-0 Mariners win at Baltimore Tuesday night.

Miley (4-2, 4.32 ERA) gave up two hits in six scoreless innings, striking out one and walking three.

Ubaldo Jimenez (2-4, 5.60 ERA) took the loss for the O’s (23-14), giving up six runs on five hits in four and a third innings.

Former Oriole slugger Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer in the sixth, his eighth of the season.

Max Scherzer followed up his historic 20-strikeout game last week with another 10 punchouts, but in a losing effort in a 2-0 New York Mets win Tuesday.

Scherzer (4-3, 4.01 ERA) struck out 10 and walked three in six and a third innings, giving up three hits, two of them solo homers, from Curtis Granderson and Michael Conforto.

Noah Syndergaard (4-2, 2.19 ERA) scattered five hits seven scoreless innings, striking out 10.

Daniel Murphy was 1-for-3 in his return to New York (22-16), which moved to within a half-game behind Washington (23-16) in the National League East.
