Authors Michael Croley, Charles J. Shields to read at New Dominion Bookshop May 3

New Dominion BookshopNew Dominion Bookshop will host a book reading and signing with short story writer Michael Croley and biographer Charles J. Shields on Friday, May 3, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.

Michael Croley will be reading from his debut collection of stories, Any Other Place, and Charles J. Shields will be reading from his new literary biography, The Man Who Wrote the Perfect Novel: John Williams & Stoner. This event will be cosponsored by VQR and will be free and open to the public.

Croley was born in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The recipient of an NEA Fellowship in Literature in 2016, his work has appeared in a number of publications, including CatapultVQRThe Paris Review DailyKenyon Review Online, and Narrative. His debut collection of stories is Any Other Place. He teaches creative writing at Denison University.

Shields is the author of Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee (New York Times bestseller and Book-of-the-Month Club Alternate); And So It Goes: Kurt Vonnegut, A Life (New York Times and Washington Post Notable); and The Man Who Wrote the Perfect Novel: John Williams & Stoner, published by the University of Texas Press. He’s currently writing There’s Always Something Left to Love: Lorraine Hansberry & A Raisin in the Sun, slated to be published by Henry Holt & Co. in 2020.
