Augusta County man dead after electric scooter accident in Harrisonburg

An Augusta County man is dead after an accident involving a scooter on Wednesday night in Harrisonburg.

John Berrett, 51, of Greenville, was pronounced dead at Sentara RMH, according to the Harrisonburg Police Department.

The crash is under investigation.

Berrett, who was traveling on an electric foot scooter, was involved in a collision with a vehicle at approximately 8 p.m.

The driver, who has not been named, stopped and called 911.

According to witnesses, Berrett was traveling east on 4th Street when he allegedly disregarded a stop sign, entered the intersection and collided with the vehicle as it was traveling north on Stuart Street.

Lifesaving measures were performed on Berrett, who was found unresponsive in the street.

The Harrisonburg Police Department accident reconstruction team is investigating the fatal crash.

No charges have been filed related to this incident.
