A substitute teacher in Arlington has been arrested on child sex charges, and authorities are seeking possible additional victims.

Timothy McGhee, 47, of Alexandria, was arrested on Friday as a result of an investigation by Arlington County Police into allegations that McGhee had initiated an inappropriate sexual relationship with a juvenile female student at Washington-Liberty High School.

Police had been given information on Jan. 3 that McGhee had been involved in the sexual relationship with the student since 2022.

Detectives believe there could be additional victims. The suspect has extensive history interacting with juveniles and previously volunteered with youth groups at a local church and was a substitute teacher in neighboring jurisdictions in Northern Virginia.

Anyone who has additional information related to this investigation or has had past inappropriate encounters with this suspect is asked to contact Detective S. Yanda at 703-228-4244 or [email protected].

Information may also be provided anonymously through the Arlington County Crime Solvers hotline at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
