Andrew McKnight Beyond BordersThe award winning Andrew McKnight and Beyond Borders will bring their exciting fusion of musical genres to WTA’s Gateway on Saturday, Jan. 25. The Saturday performance is sponsored by Jim Wilson and supported by a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The concert begins at 8 pm at “The Valley’s Best Music Venue” at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.

Since permanently leaving his corporate environmental engineering career in 1996, award-winning folk and Americana artist Andrew McKnight’s musical journey has traced over half a million miles of blue highways, and earned him a wealth of critical acclaim. “As a singer and songwriter, McKnight is a marvel, capturing the essence – the very heart and soul of the past and present in his insightful observations about places and the people who live there. His voice itself is one that you can literally listen to for hours, savoring its mellow sound like a fine mountain wine.” said The Times-Standard, Arcata CA. In addition to his passion for community causes, McKnight is a longtime advocate for preserving American landscapes and heritage. Several of McKnight’s songs are rooted in Appalachian history and culture, including the haunting Civil War ballad, “The Road to Appomattox.”

Founding Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Les Thompson, Les’s wife and fellow songwriter Stephanie Thompson, and WAMMIE-winning singer/songwriter Lisa Taylor, support McKnight with performances that delighted concert and festival audiences since their collective debut at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington (March 2008). Their eclectic arrangements of McKnight’s award-winning songs fuse old time influences, roots rock sounds, rich vocal harmonies, and an assimilation of many stylistic elements that truly stretch “beyond Appalachian, beyond blues, beyond folk”.

Andrew McKnight and Beyond Borders is one of a small number of Virginia artists who have been selected for the prestigious Virginia Commission for the Arts tour artists’ roster. The Gateway performance is supported by a VCA touring grants.

Tickets for the performance by McKnight and Beyond Borders are $10 advanced sale and $12 at the door. Advanced tickets may be purchased online at www.wtagateway.com or by calling the box office (540-943-9999). Remaining tickets will be available at the door on the night of performance.
