Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia has earned the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 for his work championing for public transit.
Kaine celebrates 30 years in public service in 2024 and is running for his third term in the U.S. Senate.
“Sen. Kaine has been a champion of public transit and Virginia workers since his days as Mayor of Richmond. He worked to extend Metro’s Silver Line to the Dulles Airport so that Virginians could have more transportation options and create good-paying union jobs along the way,” said ATU Local 689 President Raymond Jackson. “We are proud to endorse Sen. Kaine because he was critical in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which invested millions in transit, roads, and bridges. Sen. Kaine is a true advocate of what moves this country forward: public transit and workers.”
Kaine was critical in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which has provided billions of dollars to improve roads, bridges, water pipes and public transit across the Commonwealth, including more than $500 million just for public transit.
“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of ATU Local 689. One of my proudest accomplishments is extending the Silver Line to Dulles, which I started working on as governor and got to see its completion a couple years ago, and I am proud to earn the support of the workers who keep Virginia moving,” Kaine said. “In the U.S. Senate, I’ve stood strong for transportation options and workers’ rights, and I remain committed to building on this record and ensuring the success of public transit in Virginia.”
The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 consists of more than 15,000 transit workers and retirees around the DC Metro area, including the hardworking employees of WMATA, DASH, Fairfax Connector, Loudoun County Transit and Arlington Transit.
