Albemarle County observing National Voter Registration Day

AFP

albemarle countyThe Albemarle County Voter Registration and Elections office is observing National Voter Registration Day tomorrow.

Albemarle County citizens are invited to come by the tent outside the County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road, from 10am – 2pm and register to vote, check their registration status, apply for an absentee ballot, or pick up a sample ballot for the November election.

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) was founded in 2012 in response to over six million Americans reporting that they didn’t vote as a result of missing the registration deadline or because they did not know how to register. It is dedicated to ensuring every American is registered to vote at their current address in time for the next election. Over 600 voter registration events will be hosted nationwide as part of this year’s NVRD.

Registering to vote is the first critical step toward making your voice heard on Election Day. The last day to register to vote or to change your voter registration information in time for the November 8, 2016, election is Monday, October 17, 2016.

Whether you are voting on a local school issue this November, or for the President, registering to vote on National Voter Registration Day ensures you can exercise your rights on Election Day. For more information about voter registration, visit www.albemarle.org/vote.
