I like the ACC Tournament draw for Virginia, which is slotted into the noon ET game in Thursday’s quarterfinals, opposite the survivor from among NC State, Stanford and Pitt.
The ’Hoos (27-4, 15-3 ACC) were 4-0 this season in games against those three squads – with a pair of wins over NC State (19-12, 10-8 ACC), winning 76-61 in Raleigh on Jan. 3, and 90-61 in Charlottesville on Feb. 24, and double-digit home wins over Stanford (20-11, 9-9 ACC) and Pitt (12-19, 5-13 ACC).
Win on Thursday, and UVA, the tournament’s #2 seed, gets the survivor from among the #3 Miami (24-7, 13-5 ACC) side of the bracket, which includes #6 Louisville (22-9, 11-7 ACC), #11 SMU (19-12, 8-10 ACC) and #14 Syracuse (15-16, 6-12 ACC).
Virginia was 4-0 this season against this group – defeating Miami 86-83 in Charlottesville on Feb. 21, winning at Louisville (79-70, Jan. 13) and SMU (72-68, Jan. 17) and getting past Syracuse in JPJ (72-59, Feb. 7).
