A Miata cruise? You can’t lose

Jim Bishop

A few of you may be wondering . . . if tin whistles are made of tin, what are fog horns made of?

No, actually, you may be asking, silently or aloud: is a fall Miata cruise to be or not to be, THAT is the question!

And the answer: YES – weather and your schedules permitting.

The date for a fall assemblage of manic Miata mavens is Sunday afternoon, Sept. 26.

As in the past, the rendezvous point is the largely-abandoned parking lot at Waterman Square, corner of Waterman Drive and East Market Street (Rt. 33 west) in Harrisonburg. Please arrive by 12:45 p.m. for words of welcome, a few rules for the road and a prayer for safety on the highways and byways with an eye to a 1 p.m. departure.

The cruise will follow U.S. 33 west to “Almost Heaven, West Virginia,” with a lick and a promise pit stop at Moe Fatz ice cream parlor south of Franklin. The caravan will continue its scenic drive south on Rt. 220 to Monterey, parade down Main Street, then take U.S. 250 east – a mountainous stretch with hairpin turns designed for road-hugging Miatas – to Churchville and Va. 42 back to Harrisonburg.

The expected travel time is approximately three hours.

If there is inclement weather that day, the cruise will be canceled, but organizer Jim Bishop will still be at Waterman Square for anyone who shows up.

Join the fun, in the sun (hopefully!) on a fall Miata run. Meantime, please spread the word to other Miata aficionados who may not see this communique.

Any questions, call Jim Bishop evenings, 540.434.6208.

Until then, keep on shifting for yourself.
