The No. 8 UVA baseball team plays its final non-conference game of the regular season Tuesday (May 17) when it welcomes Richmond to Davenport Field for a 6 p.m. matchup.

• Virginia is No. 13 in the NCAA’s latest RPI figures.
• UVA is ranked as high as eighth nationally this week (by D1Baseball).
• Ernie Clement has recorded four hit streaks of eight or more games this year (currently on a nine-game streak).
• Matt Thaiss is currently riding a career-best 10-game hit streak.
• Justin Novak is batting .350 (14-40) in his last 10 games.
• UVA hit .340 in the Georgia Tech series.
• UVA has not allowed a stolen base in its last 14 games (only one attempt).

 

Virginia-Richmond Series

Virginia leads the all-time series, 82-58-1, and has won 13 straight games against the Spiders. UVA head coach Brian O’Connor is 12-0 against Richmond. The Cavaliers earned an 8-6 win over the Spiders on May 12, 2015, at Davenport Field in the programs’ last meeting.

 

Virginia Against In-State Rivals

UVA is 7-3 this season against in-state opponents. Since 2004, the Cavaliers have a 118-27-1 record against in-state foes. UVA’s final four games of the regular season come against Virginia opponents.

 

Noting Richmond

The Spiders have lost four straight games after getting swept at George Washington last weekend. Reigning All-American Michael Morman is hitting .362 with four homers and 45 RBI. Morman was the 2015 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. Kurtis Brown also is batting .348, while Richmond has five regulars who are batting at least .295. As a team, Richmond is batting .307 with 123 doubles. Richmond’s pitching staff has compiled a 4.55 team ERA, while opposing batters have hit .276 against them.

Virginia wraps up the regular season Thursday through Saturday (May 19-21) at Davenport Field in a three-game ACC series against Virginia Tech.
