william & maryThe No. 13 William & Mary football team will continue its quest for an NCAA title when it plays at 12th/11th-ranked and seventh-seeded Richmond in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs on Saturday at noon.

W&M advanced to the second round after defeating Duquesne, 52-49, at Zable Stadium last Saturday, while Richmond earned a first-round bye by virtue of its No. 7 seed.

W&M and UR finished the regular season with identical 8-3 records overall and earned a share of the Colonial Athletic Association title with 6-2 marks. The teams squared off in the regular-season finale on Nov. 21, as the Spiders earned a 20-9 victory at Richmond.

Although Saturday’s game between W&M and UR will mark the 126th meeting between the two programs, it will be the first time they have squared off in the NCAA Playoffs. Traditionally called the “Oldest Rivalry in the South,” W&M leads the all-time series 61-59-5 but has lost the last four meetings.
