virginia basketballFifth-ranked Virginia dominated in the second half en route to posting a 71-58 win over Oakland on Wednesday at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.

For 20 minutes, the Golden Grizzlies (8-5) looked like the team that gave #1 Michigan State all it could handle in an overtime loss last week. Kay Felder, the nation’s second-leading scorer coming in, averaging 26.6 points per game, had 17 in the first half as Oakland led 29-28 at the break.

The Cavs (11-1) opened the second half on a 13-2 scoring run to push the lead to double digits, and never looked back from there, leading by as many as 22.

Felder was 6-of-14 from the field in the first half, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and Oakland closed the half on a 7-0 run to take the one-point lead into the locker room.

He finished with 30 on 10-of-22 shooting.

Anthony Gill had 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead Virginia. Mike Tobey had a nice bounceback game, scoring 16 and hitting 7-of-8 from the floor.
