Treveon Graham hit a long three-pointer with 1.4 seconds left to complete a 10-1 VCU run that lifted the #14 Rams (2-0) to a 59-56 win over #25 Virginia Tuesday night.

uva-logo-new2The #25 Cavs (1-1) led 55-49 at the 2:52 mark on a turnaround jumper by Darion Atkins. Juvonte Reddic tip-dunked a Rob Brandenberg miss at 2:43 to cut the lead to four.

After a UVa. turnover, Jordan Burgess three with 2:16 to go cut the lead to one at 55-54.

After the teams traded misses, Graham stole the ball from Justin Anderson and went coast-to-coast for a layup and a 56-55 VCU lead.

Malcolm Brogdon made the second of two free throws with 9.7 seconds to go to tie the game at 56 and set up the game-ending sequence. Brandenberg penetrated into the lane and kicked the ball back out to Graham, who elevated from 25 feet and hit nothing but net.

Virginia actually got a three-point shot on the rim at the final buzzer, but the wild attempt by Anderson was well off the mark.

Virginia largely controlled pace and tempo against the run-and-gun Rams, who did heat up down the stretch and finished at 41.4 percent shooting from the field, and 48.4 percent in the second half.

UVa. hit 39.1 percent of its shots from the field, but could only manage one point in the final 2:52, with three missed shots, a missed free throw and two turnovers to show for its efforts.

Joe Harris led the ‘Hoos with 18 points, but missed two critical free throws at the 3:58 mark with Virginia up four and the momentum in its favor.

Graham led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field.

Virginia outrebounded VCU 41-28, but the Rams forced 19 UVa. turnovers and had a 20-11 advantage in points off turnovers.
