ACC-Big101Tenth-ranked Virginia wasn’t the offensive juggernaut it had been this season without starting point guard London Perrantes, but the Cavs can always play defense.

Ohio State shot 50 percent from the floor, but UVA forced 13 Buckeyes turnovers and outrebounded their Big 10 opponent in a workmanlike 64-58 road win Tuesday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Perrantes was ruled out earlier in the day on Tuesday after it was revealed that he had undergone an emergency appendectomy on Sunday. The junior point guard is having his best season at Virginia, scoring 10.0 points per game on 48.8 percent shooting with 5.3 assists per game.

Without Perrantes in the lineup, UVA (6-1) looked lost in stretches on offense, but senior Malcolm Brogdon stepped up, hitting a career-high six three-pointers en route to scoring 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, including 6-of-10 shooting from three-point range.

Darius Thompson, starting in place of the injured Perrantes, had 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with a game-high six assists.

Anthony Gill had 10 points, all in the second half, and a team-high eight rebounds.

Virginia led Ohio State (2-4) by two, 26-24, at the half, after leading by as many as nine in the first half.

The Buckeyes made six of their first eight from the field to open the second half to lead 42-40 with 13:20 to go on a basket and free throw by Marc Loving, who had 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the game.

A Devon Hall jumper 25 seconds later tied the game, and a fast-break layup by Thompson gave Virginia a 44-42 lead at the 12:12 mark.

UVA would never trail again, but the game would stay tight into the final minute.
