The Bridgewater College equestrian team, riding at the national show for the first time in program history, tied for fifth place at the IHSA National Show at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.

Bridgewater started the year competing against more than 376 collegiate teams from across the U.S. and Canada and competed against the top 16 teams in the IHSA at this year’s National Show.

Scoring points for the Eagles during the three-day show were Allyson Gallamore (reserve champion in Walk-Trot) a senior from King George, Va., and Taylor Rose (fifth in Intermediate Over Fences) a freshman from Westminster, Md.

Also riding at the national show for the team were Shelby Goodman (10th in Open Over Fences) a junior from Smithfield, Va., Geordan Duncan (10th in Walk-Trot-Canter) a junior from Easton, Md., Lauren Casey (eighth in Intermediate On the Flat) a sophomore from Wakefield, R.I., Rose (seventh in Open On the Flat) and Tara Deckel (11th in Novice Over Fences) a freshman from Osterville, Mass.

Bridgewater also had four riders compete in individual classes with each finishing in the Top 10.

Corrie Fittz, a junior from Severn, Md., led the way to a third-place finish in Walk-Trot. Chelsea Hames, a senior from Chesapeake, Va., placed fifth in Intermediate Over Fences and Goodman finished 10th in Open Over Fences. Casey placed ninth in Novice On the Flat.

The fifth-place finish at the IHSA Show capped off the best year in the program’s history. The riders won the regional title for the second time in program history and then added the Zone 4 title for the first time.
