Augusta County taps new fire, rescue chief

augusta countyDavid W. Nichols has been named the new fire and rescue chief in Augusta County.

Nichols has more than 20 years of experience in the fire and rescue service, having served in several key leadership positions, including the Director of Public Safety for Bedford County from 1995 to 2000, and Chief of Fire and Emergency Services for West Manchester Township, Pa., from 2000 to 2015.

Nichols is currently serving as a program manager for Industrial Rescue Programs for Moran Environmental Recovery, and serves as a member of the adjunct faculty at Harrisburg Area Community College.

Nichols is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration and Management from the University of Maryland and holds a Master of Science in Fire Service Leadership from Grand Canyon University.

Nichols will begin his duties on Feb. 1.
