True freshmen expected to get time with UVA football in 2015

uva-logo-new2UVA football coach Mike London will rely on several true freshmen to plug holes in his two-deep and on special teams in 2015. London said Thursday that tailback Olamide Zaccheaus, wide receiver David Eldridge, linebackers Eric Gallon and Dominic Sheppard, cornerback Myles Robinson and free safety Juan Thornhill are all expected to get playing time this season.

“We’ve put them into practice situations where they’re involved in a lot of our special-teams play and provided some depth,” London said. “It’s going to be a long season, and right now we just want to make sure that their recall and their ability to hone in on what’s going to be asked of them is something they can handle.”

That is the key with true freshmen making the transition from Friday nights to Saturdays.

“I want to make sure that they’re absolutely ready. If they are, I’ve always said, when they’re ready, we’re ready to play them,” London said.
