liberty-flames21Liberty football coach Turner Gill has announced the addition of former Wake Forest offensive lineman Will Smith to his 2015 roster.

Smith will have two years of eligibility remaining and is able to compete immediately for the Flames. The Charlotte, N.C., native was added to the roster last week and has already begun practicing with the team during August training camp.

“We are thrilled to have Will Smith join our football program,” said Gill. “Will has good athleticism and size.”

Smith spent the last three years at Wake Forest, including a redshirt season in 2012. He played in four games during the 2013 campaign before seeing his playing time double to eight games in 2014.

Last season, Smith started a four-game stretch late in the season at left tackle (Boston College, Clemson, N.C. State and Virginia Tech) before suffering an injury against the Hokies that sidelined him the rest of the year.

The 6-5, 305-pound offensive lineman is a 2012 graduate of Christchurch School in Christchurch, Va. He was a VISAA Division II first team all-state selection on offense and defense in 2011. He was also picked to participate in the Chesapeake Bowl and was an honorable mention all-state pick by ESPNHS.

Smith helped Christchurch claim a VISAA state championship in 2011, the school’s first in program history, to cap off a perfect 10-0 season.

Smith started participating in football in 2010 and excelled at basketball prior to his time on the gridiron.
