Tourism Association of Greater Waynesboro puts kiosk campaign over the top

The Tourism Association of Greater Waynesboro (TAGW) has announced the completion of the challenge for the Virginia Main Street Matching Grant to Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc for the Main Street Kiosk project.

Kathy Johnson, chair of the WDDI promotions committee and member of TAGW’s Board of Directors, announced the success of TAGW’s campaign to gather the funds needed to complete the match.  “Hurrah and thank you,” said Johnson.  “We were able to raise the match for the Kiosk.  Thank you so much to all those who jumped in to help.”

The Main Street Kiosk Project will install a multi-sided kiosk on Waynesboro’s West Main Street.  The Kiosk will be placed at the head of Bruce Alley and will be visible to pedestrians and motorists.  It will highlight the businesses and activities in the downtown area.  The project was created by WDDI’s Economic Redevelopment Committee.  TAGW committed its funds and canvased area businesses and individuals to complete the match of $2500.

Piper Groves, TAGW President and Executive Director for the Shenandoah Valley Art Center, said, “The Tourism Association of Greater Waynesboro is so pleased that the community decided to support this project. This kiosk will make a physical listing of events and attractions readily accessible to downtown pedestrians- something we have more and more of as we continue to grow. The location- right near the new Moss Museum and among the three busiest eateries on Main Street- should help steer both residents and visitors to new activities.

Although the funds raised will cover the costs of kiosk, plans are underway to raise additional resources to increase the size of the kiosk and the options available to downtown businesses.
