science museumThe Science Museum of Virginia is inviting middle school girls to light up the night with science. On Saturday, October 4, the Museum will host theGirls in Science Camp In in partnership with DuPont and the Society of Women Engineers.

This special overnight event allows participants to spend an evening exploring three floors of interactive exhibits, watch a giant screen presentation inside of The Dome and enjoy special activities that will delve into the world of e-textiles. Girls in Science Camp In connects young girls with professional women scientists, allowing these two groups to join forces to develop soft circuits and create their own wearable technology.

“Today the gap between women and men entering into stem fields is substantial,” says Richard Conti, Chief Wonder Officer, Science Museum of Virginia. “Our collaboration with DuPont and the Society of Women Engineers allows us to reach young girls and provide campers with a unique experience that will spark an interest in a future stem career.”

Scientist Jill Conley, DuPont, adds, “As a young girl I had my heart set on being a photographer, but then someone gave me the opportunity to see what science and engineering was all about. I was immediately hooked and since then have recognized the importance of getting girls involved in science, math, and engineering as early as possible.  TheGirls in Science Camp In is an excellent and fun way to provide that opportunity.”

Girls in Science Camp In is $10 per person. Pre-registration is required. Call 804.864.1400 to make a reservation.
