Man who threatened Waynesboro business now in custody

Mawyer, Gary DustinAn Augusta County man accused of making a threat against his former employer in Waynesboro is now in custody.

Gary Dustin Mawyer, 30, of Stuarts Draft, is in custody after an anonymous caller notified the Augusta Emergency Communications Center of his whereabouts. On July 30, law enforcement officers from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police arrested Mawyer at an address in Fishersville after he tried to run from them.  He was found hiding outside the residence shortly afterwards.

On June 6, an officer responded to Vector Industries, 1001 Fairfax Avenue, to speak with staff there about Mawyer’s threat. According to witnesses, Mawyer got mad at a coworker and threatened to set fire to the building.

In addition to the Waynesboro charge, Mawyer also faces charges through Augusta County for probation violations and a felony count of possession of methamphetamine stemming from his arrest.

He is being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
