Drunk driver ends up stuck on golf course bridge

Chris Graham

policecar3The Waynesboro Police Department charged a Stuarts Draft man earlier today for DUI after a shortcut he was trying to take resulted in him traveling through the golf course at the Waynesboro Country Club.

David Michael Liptrap,  22, is facing the DUI charge and misdemeanor destruction of property.  At approximately 6 a.m., officers responded to an area of the golf course near the first hole due to a 1998 Ford Ranger got stuck on a bridge meant for golf carts.  Liptrap told the officers that he got lost while driving in a nearby residential area.  He decided to drive down a path that was meant for golf carts thinking it to be a short cut to Meadowbrook Avenue.

When the path ended, Liptrap continued through the golf course until he got to the bridge which is close to Meadowbrook Avenue.  Misjudging the width of the bridge, Liptrap got his vehicle stuck and was unable to dislodge it.

Damage to the golf course is estimated at between $500 and $1,000.

Liptrap is being held at Middle River Regional Jail until he is sober enough for a bond hearing.
